Meet the Speaker: Fahamu Pecou

We recently asked Fahamu a few questions so you can get to know one of our CTRL + ALT + DEL speakers.  Check it out…

  What is your passion?

I am most passionate about the way Black life is imaged in the media. As an artist, I am committed to a creative intervention where alternative stories about Black male life can be presented and ultimately used to show young men something other than what they might normally see.

How did you decide to pursue your current career?

I’ve been fascinated by art since I was a very young. By the time I was 9 years old, I knew I would be an artist and I knew I wanted to use my art to tell stories that weren’t being told.

What did you learn about yourself during the process of preparing your talk?

I’ve learned and am still learning how to focus my ideas to be their most effective. As a creative, I am constantly taking in information from tings I hear and see. Sometimes, articulating those ideas can be challenging. Preparing this talk has helped me in organizing my thoughts and determining the best possible voice through which to communicate them.

What drives you in challenging times?

“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” - James Baldwin. These words have helped me navigate my way through many challenges. Sometimes the victory isn’t the win, but the effort put into it.
