Meet the Speaker: Celine Irvene

We recently asked Celine a few questions so you can get to know one of our CTRL + ALT + DEL speakers.  Check it out…

What is your passion?

In my life I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to experience many different cultures, way of life, and various people. And from my interactions with them I’ve developed a passion for improving the quality of life of diverse populations through technology. In addition to this I am passionate about my faith, supporting the ‘lift as you climb’ movement through mentoring, volunteering and any other form of effective outreach, and sneaker collecting.

How did you decide to pursue your current career?

As a college freshman I knew that I wanted to study computer engineering, but had no idea about the depth of the domain. After several semesters of taking major classes that barely interested me, I almost lost hope in finding an area of study that I was passionate about. Then the Edward Snowden Scandal took place it genuinely resonated with me, because I then realized the importance of cybersecurity and how dangerously powerful information can be in the wrong hands. This event, and others like “The Interview Hack” have only reinforced my concern for the state of my own, and the Nation’s cybersecurity.

What did you learn about yourself during the process of preparing your talk?

During the process of preparing for my TED talk I’ve learned that my background has given me a unique perspective and it’s been great collaborating with others from different backgrounds. It has helped me to take into account things that I never would’ve thought of on my own and I hope that shows throughout my talk.

What drives you in challenging times?

In challenging times I am driven primarily by faith in my Lord and Savior and secondly by my wonderful support system and hunger for success.
