Meet the Speaker: John Bradford
We recently asked John a few questions so you can get to know one of our CTRL + ALT + DEL speakers. Check it out…
What is your passion?
I love anything and everything dealing with space and technology! On the space side, the last 10 years have been an exciting time as the industry has gone through a significant change, transitioning from being beholden to government efforts to the “new space” industry with a commercial focus. It's great to be a part of this revolution through the work I get to do at SpaceWorks.
On the technology side, I love learning about advancements in robotics, virtual reality, and computing. The potential we have to solve complex societal problems and further improve lives is exciting. It will be important that we use these advances to enhance what we can do and achieve and not simply increase our leisure time.
How did you decide to pursue your current career?
I think it was a fairly clear path for me, although I wasn’t always aware of it. I performed well in math and science classes early on in school. My creativity and interests seemed to align better with engineering than that of a scientist, as I liked to solve problems and fix things. I also like to see the ‘big picture’, so I focused on system-level engineering versus specializing in the detailed analysis of a certain part.
What did you learn about yourself during the process of preparing your talk?
It is too early to tell.
What drives you in challenging times?
I think enjoying your work is always key to persevering. I value having a strong work ethic. I am also fairly intolerant of failure and things being incomplete. I’d prefer to work all night and lose sleep rather than miss a deadline or not solve a problem.
