As executive director of Solid Waste Authority in rural Barnesville, Ga. he is testing technology that transforms garbage into usable gas and environmentally benign and reusable by-products that bypass the landfill.
In 2001, Johnny led Georgia’ first landfill reclamation project that successfully freed up capacity and transformed once contaminated groundwater into water that met U.S. EPA drinking water standards. The project received a Georgia Trend 2009 Excellence in Government Award from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.
Johnny holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a recipient of the Keep America Beautiful Georgia Man of the Year award.
