Lighting up indoor farms

Erico Mattos
What if we could reduce the amount of light – and therefore energy consumption – needed for indoor farming? Erico Mattos has found a way to let plants tell us just how much light they need. Erico Mattos is a scientist inspired by his stint at the Singularity University’s graduate studies program to put his agronomic engineering training to use to improve food economics so that food supply can cost-effectively keep up with population growth. He holds a Ph.D from the University of Georgia and has co-authored two patents on the biological feedback control of LED lights. He is currently the co-founder of PhytoSynthetix.
